Spay Neuter Kingston Initiative

Kingston Animal Shelter

Kingston, Ontario K7P 2P7
Spay Neuter Kingston Initiative was founded in 2009. Primary objective is to facilitate the opening of a high-volume, reduced cost, spay/neuter clinic open to everyone regardless of demographics or monetary income. Received Not-for-profit status in 2011 and Registered Charity status in 2012. There is a huge cat overpopulation problem. This problem has to be dealt with at the source, affordable spay/neuter services. We provide TNVR (Trap/Neuter/Vaccinate/Return) services as ferals/community cats are generally euthanized if they enter the shelter system. We spay/neuter, vaccinate for core vaccines plus Rabies, treat for fleas and deworm, ear tip and return all cats to a "managed" feral cat colony. Managed means that they have a colony caretaker who agrees to look after the colony for the duration of its' lifetime. We supplement food based on availability through food donations and provide veterinary care to established colonies based on available funding. Our TNVR program was so successful that we were asked to run the City of Kingston TNVR Program in 2014 and continue to oversee this program to date.
