Second Chance Animal Rescue and Adoptions is an organization committed to saving abused and homeless animals and rehabilitating them for proper adoption. Zeke (above) was rescued and is shown here awaiting adoption. Atlanta animal shelters euthanize thousands of unwanted dogs each month, and SCARA rescues as many slated for Death Row as possible in order to offer them a "second chance" at life and happiness. Once the animals are rescued, each is spayed/ neutered, treated with shots, tested for heartworms and, in many cases, brought back to health with essential vet work and surgery.

Adoptions are held for healthy animals and occur every weekend at various locations in Atlanta. Although only a small percentage of the animal's total expenses, an adoption fee of $175.00 per dog is charged in order to reimburse SCARA for vet bills incurred. Adoptions are granted only to those families who successfully complete an application form and pass a screening test. Second Chance is concerned about the future of their rescued animals and will deny adoption to any home deemed unfit to appropriately care for a new pet.
