Adopt a Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed

They describe him as having a very timid personality; very cuddly, likes to be in your personal space, i.e. very very close to you, has to be touching his owner.  PREMO is said to be scared of other dogs as well.  When I took him out of the cage, he was a bit timid but in a matter of seconds, he let me harness him up and lead him out.  When we passed other dogs barking at him, he looked at them as we hurried by.  Outside I could tell he really loves humans. He wanted to be close to me, he wanted me to pet him. As we walked along the sidewalk, he was unsure of the noise of the cars as they sped along.  He jumped up on me here and there.  We were walking near another dog and it was clear Premo was nervous about the other dog but it didn't stop him from continuing our walk.  Premo is a puppy so right from the get-go he will need to be house trained.  A new environment, new people, new smells can all bring with them the possibility even a house trained dog may have accidents.  With the proper training, a consistent schedule and patience I'm sure our little Premo will get it.  Once again, Premo is a puppy and he needs the training anyway to lead him into adulthood as a well balanced dog.  He needs to learn certain things as well like when his owner reaches into his kennel, he should respect that person.  In Premo's case, he did not and it landed him here at the shelter.  It sounds and looks like Premo does not have confidence, thus his bashfulness, his nervousness. Premo can gain confidence provided a willing and experienced family steps up to bring him into their home and under their wing with the knowledge that it will not be an overnight fix and instead Premo will need time to adjust and learn.  He already has the desire to please his humans. He already loves people and wants to be near them.  He now needs a family willing to put in time and energy to help bring Premo out of this scared shell and gain the confidence he needs to become a well balanced adult dog.  He should be given the opportunity to meet other well balanced calm dogs.  He should be given the opportunity to run around and use up that energy all growing puppies have!  PREMO has had great times running around in the big yard we have at VBAC, chasing and retrieving tennis balls, smiling all the way!  He runs and runs and runs and enjoys every minute!  He needs daily playtime to let it all hang out so to speak.  Premo is friendly and playful and ready to find a new home.  Premo needs serious inquiries only from people who are willing to give this boy time and patience.  He needs it.
