1711-1099 Tax Code the Dog needs a home
~~SAD FACE, BIG BROWN EYES, TAIL BETWEEN THE LEGS. This is how I found one of our newer shelter residents TAX CODE. It was his turn so I read his information. Not much written, only to go slow as he was skittish with new people. Who wouldn't be in his situation? So I went slow. I introduced myself to the little 50 pound boy. I gave him a treat and squatted down next to him. He took the treat and immediately dropped it. He wanted to go outside and he knew I could take him so he let me harness him. I could tell he was not very comfortable so I remained gentle and calm. We walked outside, his tail stayed right between his legs. Looking at him made me sad. It made me think about where he came from and why he was roaming away from a home, he must have had a home, right? TAX CODE has now been dubbed with this new name which maybe he just doesn't like, maybe that's why he's so sad! Ok, probably not but he is a boy who will need time, patience and attention in a new home. He will need someone willing to go the long haul with him as he adjusts to new surroundings. I'm going to venture out on a limb (just kidding, it's not hard to believe this...) and say he's a friendly boy who will come out of his shell given time. TAX CODE is estimated to be a young adult, 1-5 years old. He seems house trained and he is pretty good walking on a leash. Because he was so nervous, I opted to just walk him along the sidewalk and we were lucky enough to come across another volunteer with a super nice playful dog. Following them, TAX CODE had several opportunities to sniff and meet the other dog. He did so but would back off when the other dog got playful. TAX CODE is just not quite ready for such a bouncy playmate. Maybe in a little while. The good news is that the energetic wiggly dog didn't push TAX CODE away, granted TAX CODE would back up but then he would trot to catch up to the dog. He seemed to like being around the other dog-friendly playful dog but maybe, at this point in time, TAX CODE needs a buddy who is not quite as spirited. Bring in any resident dog so we can have a meet and greet! When it comes to children, TAX CODE may not be best with smaller ones as he is uncomfortable with lots of handling by people. Young children may just push TAX CODE a bit too much. If you are interested in meeting this shy boy, please come to the Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center located at 341 S Birdneck Rd in Virginia Beach! His id number is 1711-1099. Currently TAX CODE is in our medium dog adoption kennel but if you don't see him please just ask! Thank you for considering adoption!
