Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed Dog

1710-1321 Compass the Dog needs a home

To look at Compass you might think he is not fairing well at our shelter. The truth, however, is just the opposite. Compass came to us a hot mess. Emaciated. Hardly any fur and red with irritation from head to toe. He was a dog down on his luck for sure. He has been with us since October, which has given him enough time to put on some much needed weight and to grow some hairs!! He is looking much better but would look even more fabulous while sitting on a couch with his favorite person and enjoying the comfort of a calm home environment. We don't know his history, but we do know that he does better with people that are calm than with people that are high strung and loud. He's a bit of a nervous nelly. He would love a home without kids and without other companion animals. He would do great chilling out with you while you read your favorite book or do your crafts, yoga or pretty much anything that isn't rambunctious. Funny thing about this guy is that when he wants to be rambunctious he handles it in such a way that he makes doing zoomies look like poetry in motion! I watched him run in circles around the agility yard for 5 solid minutes. He found his happy in the shelter agility yard in 25 degree weather and I couldn't help but just stand back and laugh at him. I did try to snap a few pictures but I was so caught up in his enjoyment that I really just wanted to stand back and watch. It makes trying to explain his personality much easier now that I've seen that part of him. So he's a great dog for someone who likes to be active and then likes to be chill. I'm sure there is someone out there that would enjoy both sides of this guy's personality! Actually he reminds me of that saying "do as I say, not as I do". Hahaha. Compass likes to kick up the dust, but when it's quiet time he would appreciate it if you aren't sweating to the oldies! I think he will be fine as long as he isn't startled. So no sneaking up on him or waving your hands over his head and you may have found your next goofy best friend!

It has taken Compass his whole life up until this point to get to that turn in the road that is going to lead to his happy ever after. If you think you could take on a dog that has obviously not had an easy life prior to us and needs a person that will give him the time needed to be comfortable in your home and in his own newly covered with fur, skin, then how about stopping buy and meeting our friend, Compass. He is a young adult pit mix of somewhere between 2 and 5 years old. He weighs about 45 pounds now, I'd guess. You can meet him right now at Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center, 341 S Birdneck Road. Ask for him at the front desk by name or ID# 1710-1321 as he is currently in the back waiting for a spot on the adoption floor. Thanks for taking the time to read about this cutie!
