Talia the Dog needs a home

TALIA IS LOCATED IN NORWICH, VT. FOR ALL QUESTIONS REGARDING TALIA, PLEASE CONTACT [email protected]*

Meet Talia! A real sweetheart with some special needs.

Approximately 2 years old and 30 pounds Talia is an energetic, lively companion yet still settles down nicely when playtime is over. She gets along great with dog-savvy cats and loves lounging in her dog bed. Since being in foster care, she has learned to sit and lie down and to wait politely for her dinner. Talia has good food manners and is able to eat in close proximity to other dogs. She enjoys riding in the car and is practicing sitting and waiting at doorways before being let out or in. She is also super at the vet, completely housebroken and crate trained. She is up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives.

Talia does have some special needs but, in the right home, she will make a lovely companion. She walks a bit funny, kind of like marching, and has some vision impairment, possibly due to an episode of distemper early in her life. Understandably, these challenges have affected Tali's confidence around strangers and in new situations. Talia can become fearful to the point of panic in busy public settings so she will need an owner savvy enough to monitor her environment and facilitate her interactions with others. We are working with her on techniques to help her manage her fear responses. Her forever home will need to be willing to continue this work.

Tali will benefit from regular physical exercise and maybe even having a ‘job’ to do. She would be a great running partner, potentially good at ski-joring type activities, and really likes to use her nose so some tracking training or nose-work might be engaging for her.

She will need an experienced dog home and continued positive reinforcement training. She would love the companionship of another stable dog, or of course, a dog-savvy cat. She bonds closely with her people. She is snuggly and affectionate with those she trusts and loves to roll over for a good belly scratch. Although Tali seems to like children, like any cattle dog, she can become excited and her herding instinct kicks in around balls and running. We recommend older dog-savvy children only.
