Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat) Dog

1711-1531 Max the Dog needs a home

THE LONG LEGS OF BIG BOY MAX BOUNCED HIS LANKY BODY AROUND IN HIS CAGE, FLYING HIGH IN SHEER JOY AT THE KNOWLEDGE HE WAS GOING OUTSIDE!  He was friendly and silly, smile on his face.  Outside he was happy and outgoing, wanting to see and smell and hear and visit everything and everyone he saw.  MAX is an energetic young boy, estimated to be 1-5 years old.  He loves to run!  He loves chasing tennis balls but not always retrieving them; but he doesn't care because it is all in the name of FUN!  MAX was surrendered to us when he family realized he did not like being left alone.  MAX needs a new family where someone is home more often than not.  We were not told what he did while he was left alone so we are not sure and cannot comment on it or offer suggestions at this particular time. There are strategies, however, to help dogs who may be anxious or nervous when left alone and when kept in the loop regarding these behaviors, some of the shelter staff, volunteers, or private trainers may be able to offer some sort of assistance.  MAX needs time and attention.  He needs to have daily exercise and playtime.  We have all heard that a tired dog is a good dog, right?  Maybe MAX just needed more exercise than he was getting so as to keep him quiet and resting when his family had to go out.  Maybe MAX just needs a bit more patience while adjusting to a new environment.  We just do not know so let's find MAX a home where someone is home most of the day, where he can have constant companionship.  An experienced dog owner may also be best for this young goofy boy.  We all know MAX is a great boy, loving and affectionate, so spending lots of time with him will be a gift.  MAX walks pretty well on a leash although enthusiasm sometimes gets the best of him and it shows, all in all he's a pleasure to have walk by your side throughout your neighborhood or community.  MAX is house trained and is good with children.  He's a player and a silly boy so that's a given!  If you have a resident dog, please bring him or her in for a meet and greet so we can see how they are together.  We don't know how he feels about cats.  Currently MAX is in a back kennel waiting for a spot in adoption so if you don't see him, please just ask to meet him!  His id number is 1711-1531. Thank you for considering adoption!
