The animal shelter is open from 1:00-4:30 Monday, 10:00-2:00 Thursday, and 9:30-noon Saturday. Adoptions and Rabies vaccinations are available during those times. The cost of a Rabies vaccination is $5 for cats and dogs. Dogs are required to have a county tax tag. These are also available for $2.
An on-going major need at the shelter is donations - for our shelter/animal-care needs and several other worth-while ones. One of these is the NC State School of Veterinary Medicine. They bring a mobile operating room to the shelter every few months and spay/neuter our animals at no charge to us, but they are in need of funds to be able to continue this service. Adoption fees for dogs are $36 for males and $43 for females. Adoption fees for cats are $26 for males and $33 for females. The shelter does not accept credit cards. You must have cash or checks with identification. This fee includes a certificate for spay/neutering at a local vet (this covers the surgery - vet office visits are not included). All animals adopted from the shelter are required to be spayed or neutered after adoption - within 6 months. Note that when you are working with the shelter to identify animals, use the names posted on PetFinder and Pet ID numbers listed. Also note that the number of pets on the list at any given time does not reflect the number of animals at the shelter. The ones on the list have passed the date we are required to keep them for owner retrieval, or have been surrendered by their owners and are considered by us to be adoptable. And there are always many more pets available for adoption than we have time to list.
