The Trinity Animal Shelter Auxiliary (TASA) was formed in 1994
to raise funds for the purpose of constructing a humane shelter
to help reduce the animal suffering in Trinity County.
TASA is governed by a Board of Directors,
the auxiliary is staffed by volunteers,
no member of the organization receives a salary or other compensation.
The Auxiliary and the County of Trinity
formed an unusual partnership to accomplish this project.
With the support of the community, our many fund raisers
and over a seven year period we were able
to begin construction in Sept. 2001.
The Grand Opening of the new shelter was Dec. 8, 2001.
We now have an animal shelter
that the entire community can be very proud of.
The new shelter has ten runs and two isolation kennels.
A separate room for cats and kittens
is at the opposite end of the building.
There is a large food preparation and food storage room
and a second room that is used
for bathing and grooming at the present time.
Future plans are to make it into a treatment room.
The Shelter offers such diverse services as finding homes for adoptable animals,
providing for stray animals, offering assistance to owners and people who find lost animals.
The Shelter's services include rescue and care of injured or distressed animals,
rabies control, investigation of reports of animal abuse and neglect,
and the enforcement of animal regulation laws, including dog licensing.
In addition to the Animal Control Officer,
the Shelter is assisted by the efforts of its volunteers,
who provide support both in working with the animals onsite
and participating in various educational and fund raising programs.
We welcome new volunteers to assist with our program.
