The Aryan Molossus
Once a Warrior, Today a Loyal Companion and a Family-Protector

Should you ever decide that you need a big dog, with an imposing posture, which can look threatening and majestic at the same time, the Aryan Molossus is definitely one breed that you must take into consideration.

The Armant
The Egyptian Dog with a Lot of Love to Give

To some of you, the Armant is better known as the “Egyptian Sheepdog” and, just as the name suggests it, it was bred to be a herding dog. However, in ancient times, it was used mostly as a guard dog. This breed is originally from Egypt and named after the town of Armant. Its loyalty and agility are the two main characteristics which make this dog special.

The Atlas Terrier
The Small Dog With a Massive Dose of Energy

At a glimpse, the Atlas Terrier can be easily mistaken with the Jack Russell Terrier. However, there are some differences that may help you tell these two cousins apart. Before deciding to buy or adopt a dog of this breed, there are some things that you have to take into consideration. Unfortunately, this is quite a rare breed of dogs in our days.

Anglos-Francaises de Petite Venerie
It Is Impossible Not to Love Them

Anglos-Francaises de Petite Venerie are the smallest dogs in the Anglos-Francais category. However, the name „Petite”, meaning „small”, is not at all referring to the size of the dogs, but to the game they are after. Even if they've been around since the 16th century, today, these dogs are not easy to find. So if you have decided to adopt one, you can be sure that you will have a unique pet.

The Pet Haven Rescue Center is a non profit, all volunteer, no kill animal rescue facility. We are a 501c3 tax exempt organization. We are listed with the State of Virginia as a humane organization. All donations that we take in are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

We get no state or local funding. No one gets any compensation in any way.

The Pet Haven provides a temporary home for animals that have been transferred from high kill shelters until we can find loving, permanent homes for them. Many of the animals that we rescued have been with us for a long time. We have had many cats for as long as 5 years and some of our dogs have been with us since they were born. If you or anyone you know would like to adopt one of our animals, please contact us at 276-326-3483. The animals in our care are taken care of BUT they lack the much needed attention and love that an individual home can give them. And please. DO NOT underestimate the joy an adult cat or dog can give. Most of them are through the baby stages and are much more settled. We have many older dogs and cats that would make very loyal, loving companions.

Many of the transferred animals that we bring into our facility have health ptoblems. None of them are spayed or neutered, much less vaccinated. We do all of that plus more. There have been some that the vet has had to pull several of these teeth due to their teeth never being cleaned. We have had laser surgery on a few of our kittens eyes are they are blind because of sickness. Most of them come in infested with fleas and lice. We treat all of them with flea medications. Sometimes we spend hundreds of dollars on one animal and our adoption fees are under $35! This is why we need your help. Donations and fundraising is the only way we can keep our doors open. We can not raise our adopion fees are people in this area will not pay it. We do not make any money from the adoption fees. We want to find homes for these cats and dogs and we do not require people to go through a lot of red tape or a waiting period. We feel that our animals have went to good homes. Many send us pictures, some email us, some call us. We love to hear the good news. Thanks to everyone that has adopted one of our animals. These animals deserve a second chance.

We have had some questions as to why we still have the same animals on our site. Well, the reason is, they still do not have homes. There isn't anything wrong with these animals. It is just that the right person has not come along. These animals are very sweet and loving. Yes, they are happy at our place, but they really do need a place to call their own and their own family. We go out all the time and set up at local businesses to display our adoptable animals and some do find homes, but so far, not the ones on our site. So please, take a good look and give us a call.

We want to thank the Katharine B. Tierney Foundation, Sharon & Marshall Miller, The Virginia Commonwealth Campaign,.The Community Foundation of the Virginias, and First Community Bank of Bluefield, WV, Wal-Mart of Bluefield,Va, Synnova Hayes of the Bay Foundation, New York, and Sams Club of Bluefield, Va.for their generosity Many of these donors helped us get our dog house built so we could take in the dogs that we transfer from the other shelters. And thanks to the generosity of the many, many individuals that have supported us through the years and now. Without them we would not be able to keep our doors open. Being able to take in these animals will keep many from being euthanized at other shelters. We want to give Sams Club a special "Thanks" because during the month of May for our "Strut you Mutt" dog walk, the employees of Sams that owned dogs, started a contest between themselves to see which of their dogs could raise the most money for the Pet Haven. There was some fierce competition going on between these employees. But the total of all the money that we received from Sams Club for out dog walk was over $2600! This was on top of what was raised by the other participants. This was awesome!

The winner of the two Dollywood Theme Park Tickets and a $25 Walmart Gift Cart went to Laura Rice and her dog Sugar. Laura has been a regular at our "Strut Your Mutt Fundraiser for a few years now. Thanks to everyone who participated!

We are still funding the spaying or neutering of low income families' pets. If you live in Tazewell or McDowell Counties you can get your cat spayed or neutered for only $15.00. We pay a $35 flat rate on dogs and the rate you will pay will depend on the size of your dog. We work with Green Valley Animal Hospital. So please, give us a call as there just isn't enough homes out there. Call 276-326-3483 to set up your appointment today! Only 1 in 5 cats born will find a permanent home.
