Although it is now kitten season, the shelter has many beautiful cats that are anywhere from a year up till about 5 years old. Most of these cats have been either spayed or neutered and have been given vaccines. Cats nowadays are living up till 20 years, so please do not steer away from a cat that is just a year old. They make wonderful companions and are very appreciative that someone has adopted them.
The PAWTUCKET ANIMAL SHELTER is a municipal shelter that accepts stray/abandoned animals from the City of Pawtucket. We house both dogs and cats, and have found an occasional bunny, ferret, etc. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities for these type of animals, but have always managed to place them with people whose names we have been fortunate enough to obtain. Our dedicated staff consists of one animal control supervisor, two animal control officers, a veterinary technican/ officer manager, a pound keeper and volunteers some having been with us for 16 years.
We do have fundraisers throughout the year to raise funds for in house vet services for both our cats and dogs, emergency surgeries when we have the funds at our disposal, heartworm treatment which we offer to help anyone who adopts a dog that may previously contracted heartworm, and emergency euthanasia when it is only the last resort. Due to the influx of calls we receive on a weekly basis for financial help, and the limited amount of funds the volunteers have in their medical fund, we are limited in the amount we are able to help. Now we only help Pawtucket residents or anyone who is seeking help for an animal adopted from us at any time. We do our best to educate people in the humane treatment and care of their pets, and also in the preventitives they can take in keeping their pets healthy and safe. Furthermore, the extreme importance of spaying and neutering their animals both adopted and the ones they may have at home.
