The Aryan Molossus
Once a Warrior, Today a Loyal Companion and a Family-Protector

Should you ever decide that you need a big dog, with an imposing posture, which can look threatening and majestic at the same time, the Aryan Molossus is definitely one breed that you must take into consideration.

The Armant
The Egyptian Dog with a Lot of Love to Give

To some of you, the Armant is better known as the “Egyptian Sheepdog” and, just as the name suggests it, it was bred to be a herding dog. However, in ancient times, it was used mostly as a guard dog. This breed is originally from Egypt and named after the town of Armant. Its loyalty and agility are the two main characteristics which make this dog special.

The Atlas Terrier
The Small Dog With a Massive Dose of Energy

At a glimpse, the Atlas Terrier can be easily mistaken with the Jack Russell Terrier. However, there are some differences that may help you tell these two cousins apart. Before deciding to buy or adopt a dog of this breed, there are some things that you have to take into consideration. Unfortunately, this is quite a rare breed of dogs in our days.

Anglos-Francaises de Petite Venerie
It Is Impossible Not to Love Them

Anglos-Francaises de Petite Venerie are the smallest dogs in the Anglos-Francais category. However, the name „Petite”, meaning „small”, is not at all referring to the size of the dogs, but to the game they are after. Even if they've been around since the 16th century, today, these dogs are not easy to find. So if you have decided to adopt one, you can be sure that you will have a unique pet.

The Niagara County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc. is a charitable community resource, dedicated to protecting and providing shelter and comfort to all animals in need.

The Mission of the Niagara County SPCA, Inc. is to prevent cruelty to all animals, to help educate the public on the humane treatment of animals and to provide love and care for those companion animals with whom we come in contact.

We promote adoption and re-homing for abandoned and unwanted companion animals. We promote humane treatment of all living things and work within the law to respond to and investigate all complaints of cruelty and neglect.

The Niagara SPCA endeavors to eliminate cruelty and over-population. We support the principle that no person has the right to cause pain and suffering to any living creature.

The Niagara County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was incorporated on March 14th, 1894, making it one of the oldest continually operating agencies on the Niagara Frontier.

The papers of incorporation state that "the particular business and objects of the Society are to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the County of Niagara, in the State of New York, and to enforce all laws which are now or may hereafter be enacted for the protection of animals and to secure, by lawful means the arrest, conviction and punishment of all persons violating such laws". The papers also set the number of trustees to manage the original Society at five.

While the primary responsibility of the Niagara County SPCA still is the prevention of cruelty to animals, our mission has expanded to include the education of the public on the humane treatment of animals and to provide love and care for the thousands of abandoned and homeless animals that enter our Shelter each year while we search for warm, loving homes for each of them.

Since its original setting in the basement of a local doctor's office to our present location on Lockport Road, the SPCA has had many "homes". Most persons would readily remember the Military Road location, presently part of the Prime Outlet mall. Prior to that, a somewhat smaller SPCA shelter was located on Porter Road in the approximate area of the restaurant at the Hyde Park golf course. This was torn down to make way for the intake tunnels when the Niagara Power Project was being built.

As we look back at the changing locations of our Shelter, it is important to note that throughout our history, the main focus of the professional and volunteer staff of the Niagara County SPCA has always remained the same...a dedication to provide a better life for all of those animals with whom we come in contact.
