The Macon County Humane Society provides a vital service to this area. One of its primary goal is to house abandoned and unwanted animals while attempting to place them in good homes. Other services include placing ads in local papers, radios stations and media-com cable co. listing available animals and a weekly "Pet Round Up" to help owners locate their lost pets. (Call 524-4588 to report a lost or found animal). Also check with the shelter if you lose an animal; it may be waiting for you to come and take it home.

Our thrift shop is open every day (except Sunday) from 9 a.m. until 4. p.m. We always need donations of salable items. Remember that 100 per cent of the proceeds go to help maintain the animal shelter. Thank you for patronizing our thrift shop at 1521 Old Murphy Road, 369-3046.

Should you wish a certain type of dog or cat not available at the shelter, list your name and we will call you if and when we have one.

The shelter volunteers sometimes present programs to schools, clubs and others wanting to know more about the operation of the shelter (especially children).

Would you like to volunteer? It is rewarding to help abandoned or abused animals. Duties could involve walking a dog, brushing a cat, or bathing a pup, call (828) 524-4588, leave your name and we will contact you.
