The Lowell Humane Society, owner and operator of the Merrimack
Valley Animal Shelter, was founded in 1873 and is one of the oldest
animal welfare agencies in the nation. It is a nonprofit charitable
organization totally supported by voluntary donations and dedicated
to the promotion of animal welfare throughout the Merrimack Valley.
The purpose of your Lowell Humane Society is preventing cruelty to
animals, providing care for homeless and distressed animals and
educating the public in proper animal care.
