The Humane Society of Lyon County is currently seeking qualified individuals who would be interested in becoming foster families for pets from our impoundment center.
In general, foster care involves housing an animal from the impoundment center in your home and providing care to it. Foster animals will be provided with food and any other necessary supplies. Those involved in the foster care program will be screened by humane society staff and must become members of the organization. Foster families provide a very valuable service to organization and the animals we serve. By providing alternative housing for the animals, the Humane Society hope to alleviate animals being euthanized due to lack of space at our impoundment facility.
Foster animals benefit greatly from the additional attention and security provided by a foster family. Animals are placed into foster care for as short a period as 3 days to as lengthy a stay as 3 months, depending upon the animals and the foster family's situations. All animals sent into foster homes are vaccinated and vet checked, and Humane Society staff attempts to match the animal's temperament and needs to that of the foster family.
