Every year 2.5 million dogs are euthanized in the United States simply because there are not enough homes for them all. Because the German Shepherd Dog enjoys such immense popularity, ranking 3rd in AKC registrations in 2000, many euthanized are German Shepherd Dogs. GSDRH was formed in mid 1999 by a group of caring individuals, bound by a deep love and admiration for the breed, in response to the large number of homeless and abandoned German Shepherd Dogs in the Houston area. GSDRH was incorporated in the state of Texas in October 1999, and granted official 501c(3) status in July 2000. The purposes for which the Corporation was organized and to be operated are charitable and/or educational.
