Rocky Mount Animal Shelter

P.O. Box 8766
Rocky Mount, North Carolina 27804
Determined to make a difference in the lives of Rocky Mount's homeless animal population, Laura Gearhart founded The Friends of Rocky Mount Animals in 2002 as a 501c3 non-profit organization located in Rocky Mount, NC. Abandoned and abused animals are dying by the millions in shelters. A lucky few make it out but the rest are euthanized on a steel table, frightened and forgotten. The Friends of Rocky Mount Animals MISSION is to Rescue, Reduce (through our Spay & Neuter program), Rehabilitate and rejoice in the adoption of a homeless animal to a loving home. While the rescue is based in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, we rescue animals all over the East Coast while primarily focusing on North Carolina. We network with other rescue organizations using an all- volunteer transport network to transport animals to adopters, fosters and other rescues. We have a high rate of adoptions and excel at providing the critical care and rehabilitation necessary so the animal is again healthy. We have a double focus on networking out animals. We focus on animals in our foster care program as well as helping to promote the area kill shelterâ??s animals. We have been able to help over 11,000 animals since 2002. This is attained with help from our volunteers, effective fund raising and the use of digital media to reach new adopters, volunteers and donors. Our rescue strives to significantly enhance quality of life by matching the needs of the family or person adopting to an animal in need of a loving home. We pull animals from area kill shelters and match them up not only with families but with seniors and the disabled who are homebound, two segments of our population often in need of companionship. This provides a loving home for the animal while meeting the needs of a lonely, often forgotten part of our society. Friends of Rocky Mount Animals, Inc. providing rescue, Spay & Nueter, emergency medical treatment and adoption allows us to maximize the number of animals we can help annually. . We are very proud of our accomplishments serving our community and yours by providing these services. One of our proudest accomplishments has been to change the ordinance to mandatory spay and neuter at City of Rocky Mount Animal Control and Edgecombe County Animal Control. We have also been able to provide Rocky Mount Fire Department with multiple sets of Pet Oxygen Masks to the Rocky Mount Fire Department, which actually helped a few area animals. The first animal saved was Jerry Satterwhiteâ??s Puppy, Lucky Blue, when the puppy was rescued from a house fire in April of 2009.
