Animal Care and Control is a self-supporting county department designed to:

* Prevent and control rabies through bite investigation and rabies registration
* Enforce state and county animal control and welfare laws
* Operate a shelter for stray and owner-relinquished non-native animals
* Adopt unwanted animals to responsible homes
* Euthanize unwanted animals not suitable for adoption
* Promote responsible pet-ownership and animal welfare through counseling and law enforcement
* Rescue animals that are lost, diseased, injured, or in peril
* Provide public education programs for adults and children.
