We began operations as Dodge County Humane Society in August of 1988.
Impetus was provided by the former mayor of Fremont, Art Peters, City Administrator, Jack Sutton, and business woman, Jerri Paulson. The former shelter was a building used for housing animals picked up at large, which were then transferred to medical schools in Omaha.
The current shelter, situated on 3 acres in the southern part of the city, was made possible through the efforts of the "Society" in partnership with the City of Fremont.
The "Society" is a non-profit organization depending solely on community support. The shelter is staffed with paid employees, a Shelter Director, an Office Manager, and kennel technicians. These wages plus ALL operating expenses are paid by the shelter through the proceeds of the city animal contract, adoptions, memberships, donations, memorials, grants, fund raisers, etc. Every dollar counts!
The "Society" is guided by a board of directors and the shelter is staffed with people whose devotion to our residents is always visible.
"Society" members are always welcome to attend board meetings, which are announced in the monthly newsletter. Ten days notice is required for items to be placed on the agenda.
We are always here for you and your animals. We continuously need and appreciate your generous support.
