Animal Shelter Personnel Provide Love and Care The Chillicothe Animal Shelter is managed by the Livingston County Humane Society. The shelter is open six days a week, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. It is closed on Thursday.
City lawmakers approved budgeting $3,000 per month to the Livingston County Humane Society to provide animal control services pertaining to the animal shelter and to the enforcement of the city's animal control ordinances. The Humane Society receives money from the sale of licenses.
There is no adoption fee for people age 60 and over who wish to adopt a pet. State law does require that all animals (except hunting and working dogs) must be neutered or spayed. If you wish a hunting or working dog to be neutered or spayed, the shelter will still allow a $15 coupon to be used toward the vet's fee.
There is a $20 adoption fee for puppies and dogs and a $15 adoption fee for cats and kittens. The shelter provides a $15 coupon toward your vet fee. However, if the shelter neuters or spays the animal, the adoption fee is $35. The relinquishing fee is $20 (dogs) and $15 (cats).
The Forest O. Triplett Memorial Animal Shelter is housed in a nice facility thanks to the generosity of the Forest O.Forest O. Triplett Memorial Animal Shelter, Triplett family and the many individuals who belong to and support the Livingston County Humane Society.
Our facility is located just south of U.S. Highway 36 behind Shearer Ag Center a short distance east of Chillicothe, Missouri.
