The Buster Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping rehome surrendered and stray pit bull and bully breed mixes. We are a group of individuals that have come to realize that the pit bull is in desperate need of better education and understanding so that the misconceptions that society has come to believe about them is finally put in it's proper perspective. We are comitted to placing these spectacular canines in educated, responsible and loving homes.

I certainly do not imply that the bully breeds are for everyone. With ownership of these bullies comes a great deal of responsibility ethically, morally, legally. We must understand that constant supervision, obedience and consistency are mandatory. For most the pit bull is more work than the typical family might be ready to commit to.

I urge anyone who may be interested in adding one to their family educate themselves on all and every aspect of the breed before making the decision to adopt a pit bull. I myself have been an advocate for the pit bull breed for well over ten years, owning three of my own as well as a three-legged American Bulldog. I have yet to find another breed that is as beautiful, devoted, and intelligent as the pit bull.

The atrocities that have befallen our beloved breed have only made my comittment to supporting any and all efforts in the areas of pit bull education and rescue even more of a mission. What we as a society of "civilized" human beings have done and continue to tolerate from individuals where our animals are concerned only confirms my belief that changes must come about now, not later. Tolerance, apathy and avoidance won't make it go away, it's here right in our own backyards.

We have become so desensitized to animal abuse, neglect and torture that a great many of us tend to look the other way and wait for "somebody else" to step up and do something. We watch and listen in disgust at what we see on TV and read in the papers, and yes thank goodness for the true human beings that are courageous enough to stand up and try and make a difference for those who's pain and suffering falls only on deaf ears. Until everyone ventures out on a sub zero winter night because you get a call from a veterinarian friend that a dying pitbull is on a porch bloodied, beaten, and shivering from hypothermia waiting for death to kindly take him and you gently talk this fallen comrade into dragging his emaciated body into a warm crate that you have waiting for him to take him to a safe and warm place to work on his injuries and pray that you may comfort this pathetic creature in his last hours, none of us should rest. This pitbull was one of the fortunate ones that has made it. He has been adopted by a family that could not have gotten a better dog if they had one special ordered.

Individuals that committ crimes against helpless and defenseless creatures will surely be held accountable one way or another. For some of these tragic creatures I believe that there are "fates worse than death" just to spare them of their suffering at the hands of their human monsters. I realize however that I can't " save them all: and I humbly choke on acceptance of that reality every day. However at least when my days ended I can go to sleep knowing that I have made a difference for many. My hope and vision for the pit bull is that one day the words "pitbull" or "pitbull mix" will not automatically mean death to these magnificent animals. Death comes all too soon for too many of them.

Apathy, fear and ignorance are the very reasons that I have some of the very best dogs in the world in my care. So until the next call comes in that another injured, drying comrade is in need I will patiently wait, have a warm crate and comforter on standby ready to journey out once more to help where and when I can. My only prayer is that I will not be too late. If you are interested in our adoption process we can provide you with an adoption application/questionnaire that we review and approve in order for an adoption to be completed. Our tax deductible adoption donation is $250.00 which includes every dogs spay or neuter, vaccinations, microchip. dewormings, heartworm testing and preventative and flea preventative. No dog will be adopted without Buster Foundation approval AND being sterilized.
