The Beatrice Humane Society conception began in January 1999, when the Beatrice Police Department began looking for individuals who were interested in volunteering their time and interests in developing a new animal shelter. After several meetings of the "Animal Shelter Committee," it was the desire of this particular group of individuals that a more prominent, permanent organization be established to be able to accomplish not only the task of managing and maintaining an animal shelter, but to provide the community with education and encouragement that we could and would succeed in this endeavor.

Since that time, the Beatrice Humane Society has formed, incorporated, become a recognized nonprofit organization, and established themselves as an active part of this community. It is now also recognized in surrounding communities such as Lincoln, Fairbury, Auburn, Pawnee City, and Grand Island to name a few. The need for an organization of this calibur gorws with each day as people who need assistance and guidance for their individual animal situations call on us to provide services for them.

The Beatrice Humane Society will stress the importance of responsible pet ownership, identification of pets to avoid loss of undesired euthanasia, and population control through spay/neuter programs. The Society will work to promote adoptions and provide new pet owner counseling to discourage return offenders. By fostering a healty companionship between humans and animals, we enhance animal appreciation, begin to prevent their abuse, become advocates for animal welfare and educate the public about responsible pet ownership.
