In 1979, a small group of concerned citizens got together to form The Bay Of Islands SPCA. Up to this time, homeless and/or abandoned pets were taken in by the local people.
With a grant to renovate the basement of the former S.V.F. Hall at 10 Connors Rd, the shelter was first opened in June 1979. The property is owned by the City of Corner Brook and The Bay of Island SPCA has use of the basement and adjacent garden, which is used as a dog run.
