The ARL provides shelter and care for hundreds of "special needs" pets every year. These "special needs" can be anything from a pet that will need on-going medication, have birth defects, were abused and need a very patient home, or are older and have geriatric needs. If you are willing to adopt a pet with "special needs" please visit our Adopt-a-Pet section under "Special Needs Pets" and see these wonderful pets that are available for adoption.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is the state's largest shelter and the only Des Moines area shelter that never turns away an animal in need.
