The Animal Humane Society is dedicated to the positive, transformative experience that animals provide to all people. AHS is an independent non-profit 501C-3 organization serving Minnesota since 1891; today it has facilities in Golden Valley and Coon Rapids and in 2004 served nearly 24,000 homeless domestic and wild animals. It is the largest humane society in the five-state area and one of the top ten in the country. AHS exists to protect, preserve and extend the animal-human bond.
In addition to adoption, the Animal Humane Society provides education programs for schools, camp programs, dog training, animal boarding, humane investigations, community education, animal assisted therapy and pet behavior information. AHS is also one of the few humane groups that take in wildlife. Each spring, the AHS holds the largest Walk for Animals in the world: in 2005, more than 8,000 people and 5,000 pets gathered here to celebrate the reciprocal love between humans and animals.
We are supported solely by individual donors, adoption fees, merchandise sales and special events.
