Choose the Airedale Terrier as a Pet and Say Good-Bye to Boredom
“The King of the Terriers”, the Airedale terrier comes from Airedale, Yorkshire, England, and it is the largest of the terrier breeds. It comes from crossing the old and vanished breeds of the Black-and-Tan terrier with the Otterhound. It is also said that they have the Manchester terrier in their blood. They were initially bred to hunt otters (reason for which they are also called the Waterside Terrier) and hares in the valley of the Aire river - that also gave its name to the breed - and to herd sheep, being both shepherd and hunting dogs.

The Africanis Dog From the South African Plains to Your Home
Dog breeders do not officially recognize Africanis as a breed. Also known as the Bantu Dog or the Zulu Dog, the breed developed in South Africa and it is basically comprised of similar breeds that are originally from the area. However, dog historians have acquired enough evidence to conclude that, originally, the breed lived in the East and Middle East and migrated to Africa in ancient times. The Zulu Dog is a perfect companion for people, whether we are talking about more traditional activities like hunting or herding, or simply about the pleasure of having a dog companion.

The Afghan Hound Elegance and Distinction
If the old saying that claims that dogs and masters resemble each other is true, then the Afghan hound is surely the dog most likely to be seen in the presence of an aristocrat. Its silky, thick coat will match any of its masters' designer dresses or elegant suits. Distinguished in looks and personality, this is one of the breeds that you can't stop looking at when seeing on the street and that you are very likely to see at a dog show.

The Aidi Dog A Perfect Watchdog
Of Moroccan origin, the Aidi dog evolved as a watchdog for herds of goats and sheep. For this reason, it has heightened senses that are very good at detecting threats and its instincts are perfectly in tune, resulting in a speedy and efficient reaction. These characteristics are also perfect for a hunting dog - so it is also very good at filling that role. Very courageous, this breed has evolved in the Morrocan mountains, protecting itself and its owners from many vicious predators like wildcats, but also from strangers. Also called the Berber (it was commonly used by Berber tribes), this breed is very similar to Pariah dogs - to which it is believed to be related.

Animal Angels is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill, all volunteer (absolutely no paid employees), animal rescue group. When we began our mission in 1997, we were fostering animals in our homes and in a small outdoor shelter. At that time, we housed an average of 20 to 25 dogs and 15 to 20 cats.

In August of 2000, we purchased property consisting of 10 acres of land on Three Mile Hill in Mount Pleasant, Pa, that already had a building perfect for our needs with 4,000 square feet of space.

With our new shelter, we currently house approximately 100 dogs and 180 cats. We are primarily a cage less shelter. This makes for happier and better socialized dogs.

Since we are now caring for many more homeless pets, our workload has more than quadrupled. We are hoping that, after renovations to our new shelter, we will be able to get volunteers to help with the endless (but rewarding) work.

Every adult animal we place is spayed or neutered, examined by a veterinarian and given all recommended vaccinations. Those adopting puppies or kittens must sign a contract stating that they will have the puppy or kitten spayed or neutered between 6 and 7 months of age. This is an effort to reduce the number of unwanted animals and to prevent the euthanasia of animals whose only crime was being born. Our contract also states that, if the adoption does not work out, the pet must be returned to us so that we will be assured of the well-being of the animal for life.

The costs involved in accepting an adult animal (over 6 months old) into our shelter averages $100.00 for spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and worming. The costs are much greater when an animal comes to us injured or ill. Also, bear in mind that an animal remains, on an average, in our care for 6 months. In that period of time, it will consume over $120.00 in food.

There is a $85.00 adoption fee for dogs and a $60.00 adoption fee for cats. As you can see, the adoption fees we receive don't come close to covering the cost of readying and keeping an animal prior to adoption. A refund of $30.00 for dogs and $20.00 for cats is given once the adopter sends proof of spaying or neutering.

The cost of operating our shelter averages $4,560.00 per month. This includes pet foods, litter, medicines, utilities, ordinary vet bills (spays/neuters, vaccinations, leukemia testing, etc.), gas and insurance on our van, supplies, and refunds on puppy and kitten adoptions. This does not include the mortgage, routine maintenance on the shelter, and extraordinary vet bills. Our average monthly income is $3,262.00. We desperately need your help!

We are also continuing to gather supplies for our construction/renovation projects. If anyone has any connections, or would be willing to donate supplies or labor, please let us know. Any donations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
