Founded in 1995, we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Orr, Minnesota. Our mission is to promote the well-being of the black bear and other wildlife through a better understanding.
We also run and operate the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary, a special place for bears and people, nestled in the beautiful North Woods of Northern Minnesota. Without a doubt, the Vince Shute Wildlife Sanctuary is the place to see black bears and other wildlife in their natural habitat. From our expanded viewing deck, visitors learn about bears by observing their natural behavior. The American Bear Association is proud to offer this unique educational opportunity.
