Adopt a Cocker Spaniel / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (medium coat)
Jasper the Dog needs a home
JASPER **sight impaired (available for adoption as soon as recovered from surgery appointment)
- Male Cocker Spaniel. Some tell us he may have cavelier king charles mixed in though in person he does take the shape more of a regular cocker spaniel.
- Weight: ~ 24lbs
- Age: Around 9 years old is our guess. We have been quoted 6 years by two vets and 8-10years by another. His teeth look very good so they lead much to question. He has a few little old man lumps and left eye has glaucoma.
- Is sight impaired but it does not slow him down. He may not be able to see at all. We think at times he may can see light/shadows. He learns the layout of the home/yard and does great
- Very gentle and sweet nature. A heart melter for sure.
- Will require regular grooming like all cocker spaniels. Groomer reported to us that he did amazing! If you love the breed you will fall in love with Jasper...I did!
- Vetting will be written extensively below. Main points: Sight impaired (practically blind) but learns layout quickly. Very easy going. Left eye has glaucoma and he is a light heartworm positive. He is on slow treatment for the heartworms. (see below for details,) People that meet him don't even have a clue he is blind until we tell them.
History: Jasper came under our rescue on Aug 24, 2017. We saved him from Bossier Parish Animal Shelter. He had been found and nobody ever came to claim him. They sent me his picture because they know that I LOVE cocker spaniels. Of course we instantly fell in love with Jasper. He was in pretty bad shape when we first got him. His eyes were slimey with drainage. His hip was dislocated. He needed medical care and a freshen up. To see his past pictures you can go to our Facebook page Rockers Rescue-Northwest La and click on the album titled Jasper. http://select frohttps://www.facebook.com/1494406124186592/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1732354630391739m
About Jasper: He is the sweetest little boy! We adore him. His foster parents say that he loves balls! He likes to be in the same room as his people. Not necessarily right up on you, but at least with you and knowing that you are around. Jasper enjoys the company of another pet too. He is good with dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits, you name it. We would love for him to have a home with another dog to keep him company. He likes going on walks and playing in the yard. He may not can see but he can hear a food wrapper in an instant! Jasper is a good boy when left alone so he is not kenneled. He is allowed free roam of the home when his fosters aren't there. The only time he ever really makes a sound is if the doorbell rings or when you leave. He whimpers when you leave and will cry for a bit but then he stops. When you love on him he will get real excited and wiggle his body. He came to our adoption event at PetSmart one day and everyone adored him! They didn't even know he was blind. We pointed it out to them because they would put a hand out and he of course couldn't see but would wiggle with happiness at their voice haha. Cutest thing. Oh, as far as potty training he has done well. Some accidents in the beginning but he had to learn the layout and routine of the home. Just with any new home he will have to adjust and learn. May have an accident when left alone for an extended amount of time. Let him out regularly and you should be good to go.
Vetting: Jasper is up to date on vaccinations. They will last 1 year from date given. He is up to date on his rabies shot as well. He will be neutered (appointment soon) and microchipped under the rescue. The microchip fee is included in his adoption fee and is a one time lifetime fee so no yearly expense. He received medication for his eyes when we saved him and they cleared up back to normal. His left eye appears to have glaucoma. Our vets do not recommend removing the eye. This is something you would have to speak with your own vet about and get their opinion. He may need on going medication for the eye... we are finding that out this week.
Vetting continued: We have him on Bravecto (3 month flea/tick pill) for flea prevention. It will last 3 months from date given. He received a fecal and was treated for any worms he had. He is also on Proheart (6 month shot) for heartworm prevention. His heartworm test read a light positive. We are doing a slow treatment with him where he gets 1 month of doxy pills (he is almost done with this month) then continues with proheart every 6 months and doxy as needed. Vets have different slow treatment plans. We can fully explain ours to anyone interested. Heartworm prevention is a requirement as all dogs must remain on it. Jasper's leg was dislocated when we saved him. It was able to be put back into place but it recently went back out of place so our vets are performing surgery to remove the femur head so that he can have normal functionability again. This is typically an easy going recovery.
Has some old dog lumps that vets say look normal. They aren't real big. His teeth look amazing so he did not need a dental cleaning. We had blood work done and all is well. Jasper is a senior. He will require a home financially able to support him. In return.... you get SO much love! I really wish I could adopt him myself but it would take up my foster space at my home. When you meet Jasper you wouldn't even know he had any senior problems. He is amazing!
Adoption: Whomever is interested in adopting this gem can feel free to message us any questions. We can schedule any meets after we have an approved application or you can ask when we will have him at an event if you'd like to meet him (apps still must be done online.) Jasper has a $100 adoption donation which in NO way covers how much we spend on his vetting expense and care. The donation goes back into the 501c3 non profit rescue to help us so that we can continue saving other lives. To apply: #1. Email [email protected] and tell them you will be filling out an app. #2. fill out the app at www.adoptapet.com/rockersrescue/dogadoptionapp/
