Adopt a Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat)

Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat) Dog

1802-1538 Ben the Dog needs a home

Adopting a senior pet is the best. Seniors have been through the puppy stages, the chewing, the barking, the jumping and the chaos.  Seniors have learned how to be well behaved adult dogs.  They have learned their manners. They just want to be near you, their human family.  Senior pets are special.  Adopting a senior pet makes you special.  Now let me tell you about Ben and Jen.  Be still my heart! Meeting Ben and Jen did just that! This brother sister duo was surrendered to VBACAC when their owner for the past year ended up with some health issues which prevented them from caring for Ben and Jen properly.  I cannot imagine it was an easy decision especially after meeting these two.  They are both 12 years old, easy going, friendly, and house trained.  They both are good with other dogs (but we always strongly encourage potential adopters to bring in resident dogs for a meet and greet.)  They both prefer a kid-free and feline-free home.  Ben and Jen are both German Shepherd dogs with the black and tan thick fur and wide friendly smiles.  Jen's smile shone through the cage bars. She is a sweetie pie!  She let me harness her easily without issue.  Ben let me enter and harness him up as well, easily, gently.  Even though I should have left the shelter the other day, I opened Jen’s cage door to take her out. She loves attention! She was curious about the yard we went in to hang out in and she sniffed everywhere. She didn't care the barnyard was messy from recent rain. Instead she trotted around, smelling all the smells.  She was curious about the barnyard but she would come back to me when I called for her. She leaned into me for love and attention. Jen is a bit camera shy though so trying to get a good photo of her, well, let's just say she made me smile. She wouldn’t lift her head for the camera so we decided to try some selfies! Jen is a girl who knows what she wants. She wants treats which she takes very gently from your hand. Jen wants to be taken for walks daily which she loves and she’s good at! (...meaning she walks very well on the leash!)  Her fur is super thick and will need a new family willing to brush her and groom her. Ben, like his sister was easy going and friendly. Ben, however, has some issues with his back hips/legs.  Several times they just gave out on him.  I would help him back up again with a gentle lifting of his body.  Once up, he was moving again and walking.  Ben's legs made me think how special this boy really was.  Ben needs a new home, a special home where he will be cared for in the way he needs to be cared for.  Helped up if necessary. Walked a bit slower if necessary.  He still seemed happy and well adjusted.  Ben is bigger than his sister, thicker as well.  He has a tumor on one of his front legs but it doesn't seem to bother him.  Ben was amazing, let me hug him, let me pet him, let me take selfies of him because, like his sister, he was a bit camera shy.  Ben and Jen do not have to be adopted together but if you are interested in meeting them both, please just ask!  Currently Ben is in a back kennel waiting for a space in adoption.  His id number is 1802-1538.  Jen is in our medium dog adoption kennel and her id number is 1802-1537. Thank you for considering adoption!
