The Aryan Molossus
Once a Warrior, Today a Loyal Companion and a Family-Protector

Should you ever decide that you need a big dog, with an imposing posture, which can look threatening and majestic at the same time, the Aryan Molossus is definitely one breed that you must take into consideration.

The Armant
The Egyptian Dog with a Lot of Love to Give

To some of you, the Armant is better known as the “Egyptian Sheepdog” and, just as the name suggests it, it was bred to be a herding dog. However, in ancient times, it was used mostly as a guard dog. This breed is originally from Egypt and named after the town of Armant. Its loyalty and agility are the two main characteristics which make this dog special.

The Atlas Terrier
The Small Dog With a Massive Dose of Energy

At a glimpse, the Atlas Terrier can be easily mistaken with the Jack Russell Terrier. However, there are some differences that may help you tell these two cousins apart. Before deciding to buy or adopt a dog of this breed, there are some things that you have to take into consideration. Unfortunately, this is quite a rare breed of dogs in our days.

Anglos-Francaises de Petite Venerie
It Is Impossible Not to Love Them

Anglos-Francaises de Petite Venerie are the smallest dogs in the Anglos-Francais category. However, the name „Petite”, meaning „small”, is not at all referring to the size of the dogs, but to the game they are after. Even if they've been around since the 16th century, today, these dogs are not easy to find. So if you have decided to adopt one, you can be sure that you will have a unique pet.

Pet Tips

Training an older dog

I am sure that just about everyone has heard the saying “you can't teach an old dog new tricks”, are they right? Yes and no, but let us try to explain. An older dog will take a lot more training and dedication from its owner than a younger dog will, this is because an older dogs mind is a lot more "set" in its ways, which is very similar to people. An older dog will have already passed the crucial period in his life that influences how the dog will behave when it is older, therefore it already thinks it knows how to behave correctly and trying to retrain him in other ways will take a lot of time and effort.

This is not am impossible task but you can't train an older dog like you would train a puppy. You have to be a little bit stricter on an older dog, this is because they have a lot more intelligence than a puppy and know how to manipulate you. An older dog is more likely to do something if he thinks its his idea rather than yours, for example if he goes to sit, say sit and then praise him, he will soon think it was his idea and if you keep on repeating this process sooner or later you will have him sitting on command. This process will work for many commands, like fetch, come, stay and heel.

You may find that your older dog is particularly easy to train, some dogs have a streak of stubbornness which means they will not train as easily as others but some are more susceptible to training methods. Training an older dog will of course be more difficult but bad habits need to be broken. Your dog will thank you for it, the end result and the relationship built will be well worth the trouble.

Training an older dog can often be a grueling task but try making it enjoyable by joining a local class (they are not just for people with new puppies) you may even try to get some support from family or friends, invest in some training products such as toys and treats, you may even want to consider a training school, but one thing is for sure once you've taught your dog what he needs to know the bond between you will grow and you will soon become inseparable.
