If you are searching for a dog who is loyal, very eager to please & extremely intelligent, then a poodle may be the breed for you. Not to mention that poodles are agile, easily trained & very beautiful. Poodles have very thick and fluffy coats & require a great amount of grooming with regular brushing from their owners. When you see how beautiful & proud poodles appear when professionally groomed you will spare no expense to maintain this look.

Poodles

The poodle breed conveniently comes in three different sizes. Standard size, being the largest size poodle, has a recommended height of 15 inches and up. Miniature size poodles range between 10 & 15 inches. For all of you lap dog lovers, the toy size poodle is perfect, measuring a maximum of 10 inches.

Poodles make excellent show dogs with their beautiful coats. They are easily trained as we mentioned above which means they do very well in the agility ring. In fact they seem to enjoy it. Poodles are cheerful, happy dogs. They are generally very obedient when trained. Standard size poodles seem to be more on the independent side where smaller sizes like to be closer and cuddle with their owners. They require an average amount of exercise, standard size poodles may require more than the toy or miniature varieties as they like to run about.

Poodles are typically not noisy when trained properly. A well bred poodle will not be aggressive with people they know. Although they have been known to be protective of their owners. Smaller size poodles are normally shy towards people & dogs they do not know. Do not force them to do anything, let them adjust slowly on their terms, or they may strike out in aggression.

Poodles also come in a variety of beautiful colors. White, cream, apricot, blue, silver, chocolate & black are the most common. There are some other, off, rarer colors, one is called a party, which is black & white. The other is called a phantom, which has grey that fades into a white.
