The Ariege Pointing Dog

Love Him and Respect Him Enough to Save a Rare Breed

Breeders wanted to revive one of the most fascinating hunting dog breeds that almost disappeared during Word War II, and that is Ariege Pointing Dog, also known as Ariege Pointer.

The original name is Braque de l’Ariège; the breed was created in the 19th century, by crossbreeding the Braqque Saint-Germain and Braque Francais. It is highly important to acknowledge that this dog is not suitable for a pet, as it is a pointing gun dog. It is used in hunting hare and partridge because of its excellent skills as a retriever. It is a strong, energetic and robust dog. The Ariege Pointing Dog has all the qualities of a hunting dog. It is fast and has a highly developed sense of smell.

The breed's appearance is very elegant, especially if the dog is well taken care of. The head is usually long and narrow, and the body is medium-large. Well built muscles, lean legs, long, straight muzzle, widely opened nostrils, pink nose and a strong neck are some of the features that make this dog distinctive and unique. The coat is usually white, never black, with pale orange or brown. The height varies from 56 to 67 cm.

The behavior of an Ariege Pointing Dog is similar to any hunting dog. They hunt, search and point. They are also very good swimmers. What is intriguing about these dogs is that their keen senses manifest as early as the age of two months.

The Ariege Pointer is extremely active and tends to be quite independent. That is why it is necessary to train this dog well from the beginning, which is not exceedingly difficult in most cases, although it tends to be quite headstrong. It also needs to be involved in regular outdoor activities.

Trying to save this dog breed and maintain the original Ariege Pointer traits, breeders have been struggling to isolate the non-representative subjects from the reproduction process, such as dogs that tend to be aggressive or use to bite, as well as the ones that are too shy.

The Ariege Pointing Dog is certainly an intelligent dog that you will fall in love with extremely fast. These strong and powerful dogs are actually very affectionate with their adoptive families. They love to please people, and that is why they will do anything you want them to, if trained properly. They are loyal and usually not aggressive, and that is why people want them as pets.

Of course, there are several requirements that you must respect in order to have healthy and happy hunting dogs as your pets. A large house with an even larger yard would be best for the Ariege Pointers, so that you make sure they have enough space to run and play.

They have excellent qualities, and it is impossible not to love them. A lot of people look for a dog of this breed and love to have it around.

The Ariege Pointing Dog is intelligent, loyal and definitely unique, so, if you are sure you can take proper care of it, you should not think twice about welcoming it into your family.
