Classified now as a rare dog (according to some sources, in a span of time of 15 years, only 700 such dogs were registered), the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is as tall as 24 inches (61 cm). The males can get to 100 pounds (47 kg), while females do not exceed 78 pounds (34 kg) on average. Because of the quite small gene pool, the Alapaha is prone to developing an eye condition called entropion (inversion of the eyelids). Moreover, some of the dogs can have one hazel and one blue eye. Their life expectancy is 15 years.

Generally, the dogs are white with patches of various colors, mostly shades of brown and black. As their coat is short, they are average shedders, so their stay indoors is not such a nuisance.

Since it is muscular, with strong feet and powerfully built appearance, the Alapaha was originally a plantation and sometimes guard dog, but it is now mainly bred for its good companionship qualities. Furthermore, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog can be trained easily, especially if training starts early in its life, and it is a very friendly dog. Some breeders claim that it can learn to walk on a leash in a couple of days. Moreover, its loyalty generated stories that hold that the dog from which the breed was originally developed used to guard his masters grave long after he had passed away.

Despite its strong appearance, it is a good and playful companion for children and, if ordered, it will protect them with an unmatched dedication. The dog will impress you with its mental abilities that allow it to distinguish between the right behaviors when playing with a 3-year-old, as opposed to playing with a teenager. It is also a skilled guard dog, especially since his favorite environment is outdoors. If kept indoors, it requires daily exercises and walks.

The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is an agile and intelligent dog that does not attack unless challenged. As a matter of fact, it seems to reflect before getting into a fight, a feature that is, however, not exerted when it comes to guarding its property and masters, when its instincts take over. Nevertheless, the breed was not developed as a fight dog, but rather as a guard and work dog.

With its royal look, strong and impressive appearance, and playful and easygoing attitude, the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog is the ideal dog that can watch over your property, while equally protecting your children and being the most loyal companion they dreamed of. On top of this, it can offer you the satisfaction of owning one of the quite few dogs of this breed that still exist in the world.
