Using a dog door
A
doggy door is very convenient. It lets your
dog to come and go as he pleases. Doggy doors, of course, should only open into a secure and fenced area.
At pet supply stores, there is a variety of doors at different prices. There are different sizes to accommodate big and small
dogs, and the frames can be bought in various colors, such as white, silver, gray or brown. There are some doors that need to be installed in existing walls or doors, while others are on a separate panel that is used as an extension to a sliding glass door. There are with acrylic flaps that open as a
dog walks through, doors made of see-through Plexiglas panels that slide open with a gentle push from the
dog, and even electronic doors that are motorized and they’re activated by a sensor in a
dog’s collar. If necessary and to keep your home secure, most
dog doors can be locked to keep your
dog inside or outside. Your
dog should have plenty of room to get through, so your
doggy door should be taller and wider than the
dog.
It’s fairly simple to teach your
dog to use a
dog door. Take his favorite treat and lure him a few times through the door. He will be doing this on his own in a short while.
