Country of Origin: Germany
History: The rottweiler was developed as an all purpose working dog in the town of Rottweil. It is a descendent of Roman cattle dogs, but has been used as a military and police dog, cattle drover, search and rescue dog, guard and companion.
Physical Description: The rottweiler is a large, powerful, muscular, and deep chested dog that is slightly longer than it is tall. It has a broad head; short, broad muzzle; and short drop ears. The dark eyes are almond shaped and the nose is black. The tail is docked short and the short, smooth black coat has rust or mahogany markings.
Height: 22 to 27 inches
Weight: 75 to 130 pounds
Temperament: This is a calm, courageous, hard working dog that is affectionate with family but wary with strangers.
Activity Level: Moderate
Best Owner: This breed does best with a dog-experienced owner in a rural or suburban home.
Special Needs: socialization, training
Possible Health Concerns: Hip and elbow dysplasia, kidney problems, neurological disorder
