History: This Dutch gun dog was developed in the Frisian woods in the province of Friesland during the 19th century. The breed is believed to be descended from spaniel-like hounds brought to the Netherlands by the Spanish. It is an all-purpose dog, used for hunting, guarding, drafting, as a companion.
Physical Description: This strong, medium size dog is longer than it is tall. It has medium-length drop ears that are set high and a long tail that curves upward. It has a broad skull with brown eyes and a black nose. The sleek coat is medium long and the head and body are of two different colors. The head is black, brown or orange, and the body is white with black, brown, or orange markings.
Height: 19 to 21 inches
Weight: 40 to 55 pounds
Temperament: The stabyhoun is friendly, lively, and affectionate. It is very good natured and gets along well with children and other pets.
