History: This all around hunting dog breed was developed in the French region of Picardy. It is related to the French spaniel and was once considered a variety of that breed before being recognized in its own right in 1909. The Picardy fell out of favor in the nineteenth century but was revitalized by French hunters in the twentieth century.
Physical Description: This is a medium size, strong, broad dog. It has a wide head that slopes to the muzzle and the long tail curves in and then out at the tip. The eyes and nose are brown. It has low-set drop ears. The dense, slightly wavy coat is liver roan with brown patches and tan markings. There is feathering on the tail and feet.
Height: 22 to 24.5 inches
Weight: 44 pounds
Temperament: The Picardy spaniel is an affectionate and devoted dog. It is enthusiastic in the field and highly trainable. It does well as a hunter, companion, or both.
