If you love physical activity and need a dog that is super active, the gun dogs are for you. Gun dogs were bred to work closely with people and other dogs, so they tend to be quite friendly and predictable with children and other dogs. Gun dogs are animals which were first bred to accompany hunters in the field. That is the reason they must have such high stamina and be comfortable around other dogs and humans. These dogs are the ultimate hiking partner, with so much energy and stamina to spare.

Labrador and golden retrievers fall within the gun dog breed. Retrievers often make affable family pets, they are usually gentle and continue to mellow with age. German shorthaired pointers are another breed belonging to the gun dog family have a tenacious amount of energy and tend to be more difficult to train. Irish setters are another breed of gun dogs which seem to have a boundless amount of energy.

Many gun dogs are notorious runners and without consistent training, dont expect them to come happily back to you after fun in the park. Gun dogs also could become anxious in the home if they dont get enough outside exercise time. Despite their gentleness with people, their strong chase instincts could mean they could be dangerous with small animals. If you choose a gun dog be sure to have lots of time for training and playing outside.
