Baseball manager Tony La Russa and his wife, Elaine, co-founded ARF in 1991 after he rescued a terrified stray cat that ran onto the field during an A's-Yankees game. From its humble beginnings, ARF has grown quickly, so that we are now able to rescue and find loving homes for more and more abused and abandoned cats and dogs each year. We also have created programs that bring the healing touch of animals to at-risk youth and others who dearly need a good dose of unconditional love.
