The Sturgis/Meade Co. Animal Shelter is financed by the City of Sturgis and by the County of Meade and is operated as a division of the Sturgis Police Department.
The Police Department has a full time Animal Control Officer, (ACO) Curt Nulle [pronounced new-lee], who is assigned to enforce animal laws and who is also a state-certified Peace Officer and a Federal Marshal. Curt owns an animal-related business and is a Butte County Deputy and is also the Butte Co. Sheriff's Dept. Reserve FTO.
Shelter Technician Michelle Boehrs [pronounced burrz] is available at the shelter Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 6:00 p.m. on a full time basis; Michelle is a Reserve Police Officer and performs a myriad of jobs for the Police Department as well as for the Shelter; a state-certified EMTb, a member of the Sturgis V.I.P.S. group and donates her time to install carseats for the Governor's Child Safety Seat Program.
