Each adopted animal receives a checkup and any necessary vaccinations for their protection at the shelters. Under state law and county ordinance, animals adopted from Placer County Animal Centers in Auburn and Tahoe Vista must be spayed or neutered by local veterinarians before they are taken home.
This has proven to be an effective way to reduce animal overpopulation. The cost of pet spaying and neutering is included in the adoption fee, along with the cost of the other animal health care measures.
