The main difference between the Akita Inu and its American counterpart mostly consists in the color accepted by dog associations. This is why some specialists do not even consider that there should be two Akita breeds but rather only one, to include both the Inu and the American Akita. The Alano is a Guardian with a Heart of Gold The Alano Espaňol (or Spanish Bulldog) is a molosser, which is a large and solid dog. The dogs are over 23 inches tall (58 centimetres), with the females being a little bit smaller. They weigh 75–88 lb (34–40 kilograms) on average and can live up to 14 years. Originally from Spain, the Alano Espaňol has a large head, with a short muzzle and a very large nose. Since it is a strong breed, with thick skin and short hair, it was once used in Spanish bullfights. The Akbash Dog The White Guardian Dog Turkey has two native dogs: one of them is the Av Kopeği – a hunting dog, and the other one is the Akbash dog, also known as the Coban Kopeği - a solid, white livestock guardian dog, similar to those bred in the Mediterranean basin. The Coban Kopeği dog is docile, even friendly with the livestock under its care, but dominant and sometimes aggressive with the potential predators. It requires sensitive owners who can understand canine behavior and who are able to assume the pack leader status over their dogs. Ainu The Perfect Guardian dog The Ainu dog, also called Hokkaido dog, is named after the Japanese prefecture where it arrived 3000 years ago, when the Ainu tribe from the Tohoken region brought it along. With its straight forelegs, powerful neck, prominent chest and solid back, the dog is thin, muscular and fast - an important feature for those who would like to adopt such a breed. Due to its outdoorsy and inquisitive nature, it needs long daily walks and regular exercise to stay in shape. That is why this breed is unsuitable for living inside an apartment. Noah's Wish is a not-for-profit, animal welfare organization, with a straightforward mission. We exist to keep animals alive during disasters. That's it. We are not involved in any other animal welfare issues. It's not that we are not concerned about all the ways animals are abused and exploited. Noah's Wish would like nothing more than to see all suffering stop. Fortunately, there are a multitude of national and local animal welfare organizations who are tackling the issues that adversely affect animals. No other organization has made the commitment though to just focus on disaster relief work for animals. That's the void we are filling. Noah's Wish came into existence in March 2002, not to duplicate existing efforts to help animals during earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes, but rather to expand on what's already in place. Too often, efforts to help animals during these life threatening situations have been gravely inadequate. It would be unacceptable if relief efforts for people were as fragmented. Noah's Wish recognizes that animals need and deserve an organized, consistent, and professionally managed national disaster relief program. Otherwise, they will continue to pay for human indifference with their lives. What will raise the standards for how animals are managed during disasters is to implement well thought out, field tested, policies and procedures that are practiced in all disasters. Relief efforts for people are managed this way and we feel they should be for animals too. Noah's Wish wants animals to survive disasters by getting the services they need, therefore, we have taken on the challenge to raise the standards. What we have set out to do, no other organization has successfully done. There have been countless attempts made, but the efforts have not gone far enough. Noah's Wish has a great deal of work ahead of us, but we're confident in our ability and determination to get the job done. What other choice do we have?
