Independence Animal Control Shelter is a division of The Independence Police Department. It is a small community shelter and its purpose is to help the stray/ unclaimed animals found within the city limits to find new loving " forever" homes. The shelter also serves many other functions some of which follow: It is a way to help people and animals live together in harmony. It is there to protect the pet owner, the victim and the animals. It is there to provide educational programs to our community and schools, senior groups etc. It is there to investigate animal related incidents such as abuse, cruelty ( now that there has been a link found between animal abuse and child abuse) and to help people better understand proper care of pets and wildlife alike. It is there to rescue sick and injured animals both domestic and wild. We provide a lost and found service within the community. We are there to also help and advise residents on nuisance wildlife condtions and how to humanely keep the wild life in the wild and out of our homes. The shelter is located of Rt 21( Brecksville Road) on Selig Drive.
