We open our doors to tens of thousands of homeless pets every year and find homes for more animals than any other shelter in the state of Washington. Our mission is to protect and promote the well-being of animals and to foster positive relationships between animals and people. Behind that statement is a vision of a community where animals are treated with respect, every pet has a permanent and loving home, and companion animals are spayed or neutered. Since 1888, the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County has been working toward a more compassionate world for people and animals. The Humane Society is best known for its role in finding homes for animals, but our extensive program list also includes spay and neuter programs, animal welfare and protection, education of pet owners and the general public, and literacy work with children and pets. The Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is an independent non-profit organization with 501(c) 3 status. We depend upon the tax-deductible donations of our generous donors. We are not a governmental agency nor are we affiliated with or funded by any national animal welfare organization.
