The Henry County Humane Society (HCHS) is a non-profit, non-governmental, charitable organization, chartered under the State of Ohio for the purpose of preventing animal cruelty, and to instill humane principles in others. HCHS was formed in 1981 and in 1983 secured the appointment of the first Humane Agent in the county's history, and began operating an animal shelter in 1984.
HCHS staff provides quality care for all stray, homeless, abandoned and relinquished animals, and provides a full array of services for people with pets and/or pet problems, including lost and found pet assistance, adoptions, reclaims, pet surrenders, animal cruelty investigation, and general animal information assistance or referral.
