Established in 1996 to help solve the problem of abandoned animals, Friends for Life at The Haven has become the largest and most successful no-kill animal shelter in North Carolina . Last year we found loving homes for almost 3000 abandoned pets and provided spay/neuter services for approximately 3600. We currently house more than 900 animals.
Our cooperative agreements with animal control and humane organizations across the state has reduced the euthanasia rates in some counties by as much as 50%, saving taxpayers money and saving animals’ lives. Last year we saved approximately 2800 lives that were slated for euthanasia. We also receive animals being surrendered by their owners. Many we find abandoned at our gates, some tied to the trees. We received over 800 anonymous animal donations this way last year.
We are a non-profit (501)(3)(c) organization, funded entirely by donations and adoption fees. We receive NO county, state, or federal tax funds
