The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL), is Arizona’s largest and oldest "no-kill" shelter, we opened our doors in 1971. The AAWL was founded by Amanda Blake, who played Miss Kitty on TV's "Gunsmoke", and other pet lovers who were concerned about the number of stray animals at local county facilities. For more than 30 years, the AAWL has rescued thousands of homeless and neglected pets and provided important humane services to our community. The AAWL is a private, non-profit animal shelter with our own Board of Directors. All of our funding is through charitable and tax-deductible donations.
