Ainu The Perfect Guardian dog
The Ainu dog, also called Hokkaido dog, is named after the Japanese prefecture where it arrived 3000 years ago, when the Ainu tribe from the Tohoken region brought it along.
With its straight forelegs, powerful neck, prominent chest and solid back, the dog is thin, muscular and fast - an important feature for those who would like to adopt such a breed. Due to its outdoorsy and inquisitive nature, it needs long daily walks and regular exercise to stay in shape. That is why this breed is unsuitable for living inside an apartment. Intelligent, watchful, eager to learn and very easy to train, the breed is suitable for hunting, but it also
Choose the Airedale Terrier as a Pet and Say Good-Bye to Boredom
“The King of the Terriers”, the Airedale terrier comes from Airedale, Yorkshire, England, and it is the largest of the terrier breeds. It comes from crossing the old and vanished breeds of the Black-and-Tan terrier with the Otterhound. It is also said that they have the Manchester terrier in their blood. They were initially bred to hunt otters (reason for which they are also called the Waterside Terrier) and hares in the valley of the Aire river - that also gave its name to the breed - and to herd sheep, being both shepherd and hunting dogs.
The Africanis Dog From the South African Plains to Your Home
Dog breeders do not officially recognize Africanis as a breed. Also known as the Bantu Dog or the Zulu Dog, the breed developed in South Africa and it is basically comprised of similar breeds that are originally from the area. However, dog historians have acquired enough evidence to conclude that, originally, the breed lived in the East and Middle East and migrated to Africa in ancient times. The Zulu Dog is a perfect companion for people, whether we are talking about more traditional activities like hunting or herding, or simply about the pleasure of having a dog companion.
The Afghan Hound Elegance and Distinction
If the old saying that claims that dogs and masters resemble each other is true, then the Afghan hound is surely the dog most likely to be seen in the presence of an aristocrat. Its silky, thick coat will match any of its masters' designer dresses or elegant suits. Distinguished in looks and personality, this is one of the breeds that you can't stop looking at when seeing on the street and that you are very likely to see at a dog show.

AnimaLovers was founded in 1995 by a small group of friends who wanted to provide needy cats and dogs in the Capital District of New York with a better way to find their way to safety and new lives.
Since 1995, AnimaLovers has helped find homes for thousands of cats and dogs in need. We've provided them with a safe place to live before their adoption, with spaying or neutering as well as other necessary veterinary services, and with healthy food and loving care. We have grown from a core group of founding members to a larger (but never large enough) network of volunteers who share the same basic goal - to provide care and assistance for animals in need.
AnimaLovers is not a public shelter and receives no government monies. We are an all- volunteer not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization which relies on contributions, membership and adoption fees, some small grants, and fund raising events to provide care for the animals who come to us.
What does AnimaLovers do best? We've placed a value on the quality of care we provide for the animals we care for, as well as a value on the adoptive placements we make. We feel it is important to find the right person, the right situation, for each of our animals - and we have waited, sometimes for many weeks or months, to be able to do just that. If we are limited, it is by the number of volunteers who are willing to work hard with us and by the money it takes to provide the kind of help we give. Because of this emphasis on each individual animal, we've also become a last resort for so-called "hard to place" animals to find help. Aging companion animals, dogs and cats with disabilities or health problems, and animals with behavioral problems have all found help from us. Although these animals are often very costly, both financially and emotionally, we know that when we accept any animal, we make a lifelong commitment. And although we cannot assist every animal in need (even though we really want to), we are filled with joy to have been part of the recovery and adoption of those whom we've met since we began this journey almost 10 years ago.
Over the years, AnimaLovers has expanded beyond the boundaries of cat and dog rescue and adoption to meet the needs of other animals as well: by developing a trap/neuter/release program for feral cat caretakers; by creating programs to help families keep their companion animals healthy by providing low cost spay/neuter services and emergency veterinary care; and by developing a humane education component to teach our children about how to love and care for the animals in our world. We seem to be limited only by our need for funding and more volunteers in our quest to provide the very best life possible for every companion animal in the Capital District. With your help we can continue to expand the web of kindness to as many animals as we can...day by day and animal by animal.
