Dog Bites Dog Bites
If I am bitten how should I care for a dog bite?
* Always wash the dog bite with soap and warm water, try to get any dirt, saliva, or any other particles washed out of your wound.
* Apply pressure with a clean cloth or towel to the dog bite to stop any bleeding, if the bleeding does not stop within 15 minutes you should proceed to a doctors office or emergency room.

Pets in Kansas : Dog : American : Pup
Pup
We had a stray female black dog appear on our doorstep about a year and half ago. She was a little skiddish and beautiful, we put up fliers and posted ads, contacted the animal shelter and our vet to see if anyone was missing or lost their dog. My husband did not want to keep her so he did not want to give her a name. We nicknamed her Pup. No response, we kept her within six months she had a litter of 10 puppies we were able to find good homes for each and every one of them. Before we had the opportunity to have her spayed she was pregnant and had another litter of 11 puppies. As of this weekend we have found good homes for each and every one of them. She is a lovable gorgeous dog so we made an appointment with our local vet to have her spayed. Knowing that it would it cost us around $250 to have this done and our tight budget we were willing to make the commitment for her. I ped her off this morning and just now got a call from the vet saying that she tested positive for heartworms. I forgot to mention that when she had her litter of puppies she stressed and started licking her tail and now her tail is infected and the vet would like to amputate her tail. Unfortunately we can't spay her or amputate her tail until her heartworm condition has been treated. Treatment process is approximately 4 months and keeping her confined. My husband and I both work full time and have two children under 3 years old. With our situation, we know that we cannot confine her and afford to treat her and spay her, vet gave us an estimate on how much we would invest in her $600-700. She is great dog, we kept her inside last night for the first time and no accidents we had to pull water and food. Does great with the kids and excellent alert dog. Friendly, wags her tail and kind of hops, runs when she is happily chasing something. Her weight is 71 lbs so she is hefty we have been feeding her well and she seeks attention. We don't have the heart to have her euthinized due to the fact that we simply cannot afford her medical treatment needed. Please contact me and see if you have any suggestions or process on surrendering the dog to a no kill shelter. We live in Topeka, Kansas and I can be reached at 785608-6104. Thank you for taking the time to read Pup's story.
