Cat Food Treats – Make Them Yourself

Making tasty treats for your cat is a great way to manifest love and affection towards them, and it can also be a cheaper and healthier alternative to cat food you buy in stores and pet shops, and is also great if your cat is bored with canned products.

The first thing you must know before you begin making home cooked food and treats is what to put in them. The cat’s digestive system is much different than ours. While humans are omnivorous, cats are true carnivores and they’re diet mainly consists of high protein red meat. Food ingredients you should avoid include eggs, dairy products, onions, pork and certain fish meats that have a very high chance of toxicity.

Cat food that is homemade has the advantage of being healthier than normal food because you know the ingredients that go in it. Therefore you can make food that is not only delicious, but also very healthy. It does require a bit of research and take some time to make, but you will find the effort to be worth your while.

Your feline’s diet should primarily consist of red meat products such as beef, but lamb meat is also a good alternative, as is chicken, turkey and organ meat. You can also mix in sunflower or olive oil, a small amount of vegetable such as carrots, and a little spice for a more complete taste. Make sure the food you prepare contains ingredients that are rich in vitamins B1, B6, B12, contain zinc, iron, linoleic acid, fiber, calcium and have plenty of nutrients and carbohydrates. These carbohydrates can come from rice, potatoes or grains. Make the treats as bite sized and soft as possible. You can either cook them in the oven or serve them raw. Some say raw is better because the vitamins and minerals are retained in much higher quantities, but even if you choose to cook it, it is still more likely to be healthier than average cat food.

There are also tasty recipes for cat treats you should try. I can give two examples, the first being Jelly Snacks. To do this, you will need 3 cups of chicken broth, 4 ½ table spoons of flour, ¼ cup of small diced carrots and ¾ cup of minced meat. The flour is to be mixed with the broth until it forms a creamy mixture. Then, mix the other ingredients and pour into your cat’s bowl and let it cool. Then let your cat feast on this delicious snack

Another great recipe is Cat Cookies. You will require 200 gm of mashed fish, a quarter of a cup of dry milk and half a cup of wheat germ. All ingredients are to be mixed with one another and rolled into small balls. Then you flatten the balls, place them on a backing sheet and cook them at 350 degrees in your oven. And voila!

Cooking tasty treats for your kitty is far healthier, safer and cost effective than buying commercial ones. It will offer a cat everything its body needs, and your mind will be at ease knowing that your cat has a healthy diet.
